Enovert operates an Anaerobic Digestion plant in Weston-Super-Mare.
The plant treats food waste collected from households across North Somerset.
Anaerobic Digestion is a series of biological processes in which microorganisms break down biodegradable material in the absence of oxygen. One of the end products is biogas, which is then combusted to generate electricity and heat, or processed into renewable natural gas and transportation fuels.
Currently treating approximately 12,000 tonnes of organic waste a year, the plant generates enough energy to power over 1,200 homes.
The final output material from the anaerobic process at Weston is a PAS110 accredited digestate which is utilised as fertiliser in agriculture.
