£20,000 grant transforms disused building into innovative community space

A disused 100 year old house was brought back into use by George Road Community Church, which used a £20,000 grant from Ibstock Cory Environmental Trust to create an innovative centre to support local people. The refurbished building now boasts modern facilities, including activity areas, meeting rooms, an office and disabled toilets.

George Road Community Church has a reputation for providing support to the local community in Oldbury. The results of a survey of the local community showed that there was a strong need for a space where small groups could meet in a relaxed environment and get help from a range of volunteers and professionals. The new community space was officially opened by the Mayor of Sandwell, Julie Webb in January 2017.
